Design Carioca entre Tempos

The neighborhood of Santa Teresa, in Rio de Janeiro, will host the exhibition Design Carioca Entre Tempos from September 11 to 13, celebrating the creativity of Rio’s design scene. The exhibition brings together historical pieces from Brazilian modernism and contemporary creations, promoting a dialogue between different generations of artists and designers who have shaped — and continue to shape — the identity of Brazilian furniture design.

The event marks the launch of ArtRio Design Week and takes place alongside ArtRio, one of the largest art fairs in Latin America. Held at Chez Georges, a boutique hotel set within an iconic modernist residence designed by Wladimir Alves de Souza, the venue offers a unique atmosphere, with clean lines and panoramic views that blend seamlessly into the Rio landscape.

Curated by 42 Galeria + Dobra, the exhibition brings together renowned names and emerging talents in design. Among the modernists are Joaquim Tenreiro, Oscar Niemeyer, Ricardo Fasanello, Sérgio Rodrigues, and Zanine Caldas — pioneers in the development of a genuinely Brazilian aesthetic, characterized by functionality, minimalism, the use of local materials, and artisanal techniques.
